The Staff is one of the very basics of learning to read music.
Western musicians have used our current system of musical notation for about four hundred years now. Its basic element is the staff, essentially a graph that shows pitch-height over time. The staff has five lines and four spaces, numbered from the bottom.
Notes which represent pitches are placed on both the lines and spaces of the staff. In the staff above, the second note sounds higher than the first one, and so on.
